International shipping terms, clearly explained

Definitions of consolidation, volumetric weight, DDP, DAP, sensitive cargo, customs, surcharges and last-mile delivery.

International consolidation国际集运

A service that receives several domestic parcels at a warehouse, then stores, inspects, repacks or reinforces them before overseas dispatch.

Actual weight实重

The measured physical weight of the final packed parcel.

Volumetric weight体积重

A calculated weight that represents occupied transport space, using parcel dimensions and a route divisor.

Chargeable weight计费重

The weight used for freight billing, commonly the greater of actual and volumetric weight after route rounding.

First weight首重

The initial weight band and its starting price in a stepped freight tariff.

Additional weight续重

The incremental billing unit applied after the first-weight allowance.

General cargo普货

Goods that normally contain no batteries, liquids, powders or dangerous ingredients and meet ordinary-route rules.

Sensitive cargo敏感货

Goods that need dedicated review or routes because of batteries, liquids, powders, food, brands or other restricted properties.

Delivered Duty PaidDDP

A delivery term under which agreed import clearance, duties and taxes are normally handled by the seller or service provider.

Delivered at PlaceDAP

A delivery term under which import duties and taxes are normally the recipient’s responsibility.

Tax included包税

A route description indicating that agreed import duties or taxes are included under stated conditions.

Remote area surcharge偏远附加费

An extra delivery fee when the destination falls within a carrier remote or extended area.

Fuel surcharge燃油附加费

A surcharge calculated from carrier fuel indexes or a published percentage.

Handling fee操作费

A fixed or stepped charge for warehouse handling, documentation, labels or route processing.

Customs clearance清关

The declaration, review, tax and release process performed with destination customs.

Declared value申报价值

The value submitted to customs, which should be truthful, reasonable and consistent with the shipment.

Parcel consolidation合箱

Combining several parcels into fewer cartons to reduce redundant packaging and repeated charges.

Parcel splitting分箱

Dividing a shipment into several parcels to meet weight, size, cargo or safety requirements.

Last-mile delivery末端派送

The local-carrier stage that delivers cleared cargo to the final recipient address.

Return shipment退件

A shipment returned because delivery, clearance, acceptance or cargo requirements were not completed.
